A transfer union would be expensive, two studies show
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung explains that two studies have shown that a financial transfer union within the EU would carry a high cost. One study quoted by the paper was done by Centrum für Europäische Politik (CEP) at Freiburg which calculated the yearly cost to be €108bn. A second study by dbreserach, the thinktank of Deutsche Bank, showed the cost to be even higher – €137bn a year, of which Germany would shoulder more than €12bn.
